## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 7/6/2006, AT APPROXIMATELY 1930 PDT, RV-6 AIRCRAFT, N157ST, CRASHED DURING AN ATTEMPTED GO-AROUND FROM AN ABORTED LANDING ON RUNWAY 09, PINE MOUNTAIN LAKE AIRPORT (E45), GROVELAND, CA. THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ PRIVATE PILOT CERTIFICATE ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ MISJUDGED ALTITUDE DURING THE LANDING APPROACH AND LANDED HARD ON THE NOSE GEAR CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO BOUNCE OFF THE RUNWAY. HE ADDED FULL POWER FOR A GO-AROUND AND FAILED TO COMPENSATE WITH RUDDER FOR THE INCREASED TORQUE AND P-FACTOR. N157ST VEERED LEFT, CROSSED THE PARALLEL TAXIWAY, AND CAME TO REST AFTER IMPACTING THE TREE. THE PILOT AND PASSENGER SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES AND WERE TRANSPORTED TO THE LOCAL HOSPITAL BY EMS PERSONNEL. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX06CA226](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX06CA226), Jul 7, 2006: Barnard RV-6 (N157ST), Groveland, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the misjudged flare by the pilot that resulted in a hard bounced landing, and his failure to maintain directional control during the attempted recovery.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
