## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JULY 8, 2006, AT APPROXIMATELY 1500 LOCAL TIME, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LAND ON RUNWAY 03 AT ORANGE COUNTY AIRPORT, THE PILOT HARD LANDED THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED THE FOLLOWING DAMAGE: THE WOODEN PROPELLER SHATTERED, CAUSING A SUDDEN STOPPAGE OF THE ENGINE. THE LANDING GEAR SUSTAINED CRACKS IN AT LEAST THREE AREAS INCLUDING THE ATTACHMENT POINT TO THE FUSELAGE. THE LEFT BRAKE ASSEMBLY WAS GROUND DOWN WHERE IT IMPACTED THE RUNWAY. IN A TELEPHONE CALL TO THE NTSB, IT WAS DECIDED THE DAMAGE DID NOT CONSTITUTE AN ACCIDENT, SO THEREFORE, THIS SITUATION HAS BEEN CLASSIFIED AN INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
