## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT N3868K WAS ON INITIAL CLIMB FROM A TOUCH AND GO TAKEOFF FROM THE OPERATOR'S PRIVATE AIRSTRIP AT APPROXIMATELY 70 TO 100 FEET IN THE AIR, WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED TO LOSE POWER. THE RPM DECAYED DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 1000. THE PILOT CONTINUED STRAIGHT AHEAD APPLYING THROTTLE, MIXTURE AND CARBURETOR HEAT ADJUSTMENTS TO NO AVAIL. A LINE OF TREES PERPENDICULAR TO THE AIRCRAFT'S LINE OF FLIGHT WAS APPROXIMATELY .5 MILES FROM THE END OF THE DEPARTURE RUNWAY. THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO CLEAR THE TREE LINE BUT CONTINUED TO LOSE ALTITUDE AND THE AIRCRAFT'S POWER WAS NOT IMPROVING. THE PILOT DECIDED TO LAND IN A FIELD OF TALL CORN JUST ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TREE LINE. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED STRAIGHT AHEAD INTO THE CORN WHEN IT DECELERATED RAPIDLY AND WENT INVERTED WHEN THE NOSE GEAR CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE CORN. THE PILOT TURNED OFF ALL SWITCHES AND EXITED THE AIRCRAFT UNHURT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
