## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) UPON TAKEOFF FROM RUNWAY 32 AT NORFOLK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KORF), THE PILOT NOTIFIED THE TOWER A DOOR HAD COME OPEN. HE REQUESTED TO RETURN AND LAND. HE FLEW LEFT DOWNWIND AT AN ALTITUDE OF APPROXIMATELY 200', INITIAL AIRSPEED AT 100 KTS. ON DOWNWIND, RADAR INDICATED HIS ALTITUDE REMAINED AT 200', AND AIRSPEED SLOWLY DECREASED DOWN TO 70 KTS. HIS DOWNWIND WAS EXTENDED DUE TO OTHER TRAFFIC ARRIVING AT KORF. THE TOWER WAS TO CALL HIS BASE LEG. THE TOWER CALLED BASE LEG, THE PILOT ACKNOWLEDGED, AND THAT WAS THE PILOT'S LAST RADIO CALL. WITNESSES STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS IN A NOSE HIGH ATTITUDE AND THE AIRCRAFT APPEARED TO BE SHAKING. THE AIRCRAFT THEN ROLLED OVER AND WENT INTO THE GROUND AT A STEEP ANGLE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW06FA180](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW06FA180), Jul 11, 2006: Beech C24R (N78MB), Virginia Beach, VA, substantial damage, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed, which resulted in an inadvertent stall/spin while maneuvering at a low altitude. Contributing was the pilot's diverted attention to an open door.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
