## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT WAS RENEWING HIS NIGHT CURRENCY TAKEOFF AND LANDINGS AT ST. LOUIS DOWNTOWN AIRPORT (KCPS). HE HAD AN EXTREMELY HARD LANDING ON THE NOSE WHEEL. HIS STATEMENT DOES NOT MENTION THAT HE WAS AWARE HE EXPERIENCED A HARD LANDING. HE DID NOTICE A SHIMMY AFTER THE FIRST LANDING. UPON THE SECOND LANDING HE SAID THE AIRPLANE BEGAN TO PORPOISE SO HE RETURNED TO THE FBO. HE LEFT A NOTE INFORMING THE OPERATOR/FBO (IDEAL AVIATION) OF THE SHIMMY. THE NEXT PERSON WHO WAS TO FLY THE AIRPLANE NOTICED THE NOSE WHEEL RIM WAS DEFORMED. FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALED THE FIREWALL WAS DAMAGED AT CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE NOSE STRUT ATTACH HOUSING. THE STL-FSDO DID NOT FIND OUT ABOUT THE ACCIDENT UNTIL 8/11/06.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI06CA227](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI06CA227), Jul 12, 2006: Cessna 172M (N1725V), Cahokia, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate flare. A factor was the night light conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
