## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT WAS CONDUCTING A DAY VFR FLIGHT UNDER 14 CFR PART 91 FROM 8NC8 TO JNX. HE STATED THAT WHILE AT APPROXIMATELY 1700 FT MSL HE NOTICED A DROP IN OIL PRESSURE TO WHERE THE NEEDLE OF THE GAUGE WAS AT THE LOWER LIMIT OF THE GREEN ARC. HE IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED RDU ATC TO REQUEST ASSISTANCE AND WAS GIVEN A CHOICE OF PROCEEDING TO THE JNX AIRPORT OR RETURNING TO RDU. HE CHOSE RDU AS IT WAS SLIGHTLY CLOSER AND HAD FACILITIES TO WORK ON THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE ALSO EXPERIENCED A PARTIAL LOSS OF POWER AND HAD TO CONTINUALLY MOVE THE THROTTLE AND MIXTURE CONTROLS TO KEEP THE AIRCRAFT RUNNING. THE AIRCRAFT WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN ALTITUDE DUE TO THE PARTIAL LOSS OF POWER. THE PILOT ELECTED TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY LANDING AND, IN DOING SO, LANDED ON THE INTERSTATE. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT OR PROPERTY ON THE GROUND AND NO ONE WAS INJURED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
