## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JULY 15, 2006, AT APPROXIMATELY 0655 MDT, AN AERONCA CHAMP MODEL BL7AC, WITH REGISTRATION NUMBER N85086, IMPACTED THE GROUND SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF FROM EVERETT FIELD, PARKER, COLORADO. THE PILOT AND ONE PASSENGER ON BOARD RECEIVED SERIOUS INJURIES AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED. ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTOR'S AND THE PILOT'S TESTIMONIES, THE AIRCRAFT HAD DEPARTED EVERETT ON A WESTERLY DEPARTURE WHEN A DOWNDRAFT OCCURRED AND THE STUDENT PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OM^ COULD NOT PULL UP. A 300' RIDGE WAS STRAIGHT IN FRONT AND THEY KNEW THEY WOULD NOT MAKE IT OVER THE RIDGE. THE PILOT'S ONLY RECOURSE WAS TO BANK LEFT AND PARALLEL THE RIDGE. AN UPDRAFT CAUGHT THE RIGHT WING AND THE AIRCRAFT STALLED. THE UPDRAFT THEN PUSHED THE AIRCRAFT OVER INTO THE FIELD APPROXIMATELY 300 YARDS TO THE WEST OF DELBERT ROAD, NOSE FIRST ON IMPACT. THERE WAS NO FIRE AT THE SCENE.
