## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PRIVATE PILOT DEPARTED BIRCHWOOD AIRPORT (BPCW) AT 0820 LCL FOR A PRIVATE AIRSTRIP APPROXIMATELY 6 MILES EAST OF THE WILLOW AIRPORT (PAOU). WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LAND SOUTH ON THE 800 FOOT WET GRASS RUNWAY, ON THE FINAL APPROACH, THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR CLIPPED THE TOP OF A 20 FOOT TALL TREE APPROXIMATELY 160 FEET FROM THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT ADDED POWER AND ATTEMPTED TO RECOVER BUT THE AIRCRAFT MUSHED FORWARD DESCENDING AND IMPACTING MORE BRUSH. THE AIRCRAFT SLOWED FURTHER AND CAME TO REST IN THE BRUSH APPROXIMATELY 25 FEET SHORT OF THE RUNWAY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC06LA094](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC06LA094), Jul 20, 2006: Luscombe 8E (N2438K), Willow, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudged distance/altitude during landing, which resulted in an undershoot and an in-flight collision with trees.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
