## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRMAN WAS PERFORMING "TOUCH & GO'S" ON A RURAL FARMING ROAD WHEN ON THE SECOND LANDING THE AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTERED A THERMAL GUST OF WIND RESULTING WITH THE LEFT WING RISING SUDDENLY CAUSING THE RIGHT WING TO CONTACT THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT THEN ROTATED APPROXIMATELY 130 DEGREES ON ITS RIGHT WING TIP AND MAIN LANDING GEAR. AFTER 90 DEGREES OF AIRCRAFT ROTATION, THE UNDERSIDE OF THE AIRCRAFT WAS EXPOSED TO THE WIND IN A PITCH UP CONDITION CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO BE BLOWN OVER ON ITS BACK.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX06CA241](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX06CA241), Jul 20, 2006: American Champion 7GCBC (N53SE), Greenfield, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's inadequate compensation for the wind conditions and failure to maintain directional control of the airplane during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
