## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) FLIGHT FROM BENTON HARBOR, MICHIGAN TO WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA. WHILE CRUISING AT 3500' THE PILOT EXHAUSTED ALL FUEL IN THE LEFT WING AND LOST POWER. THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO REGAIN POWER AFTER SWITCHING THE FUEL SELECTOR VALVE TO THE RIGHT TANK NUMEROUS TIMES. HE DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND ATTEMPTED TO LAND AT MANSFIELD LAHM AIRPORT, LANDING IN A SOYBEAN FIELD ABOUT A MILE NORTH OF RUNWAY 23. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO THE PROPELLER, NOSE LANDING GEAR AND THE MAIN LANDING GEAR FAIRINGS. ON AUGUST 3, 2006, MAINTENANCE TECHNICIANS WERE ABLE TO PRIME THE ENGINE AND RUN IT OFF THE RIGHT FUEL TANK AND THEN THE LEFT TANK. IT IS SUSPECTED THAT THE RIGHT FUEL PUMP WAS NOT ENGAGED AFTER THE FUEL TANK SELECTOR VALVE WAS SWITCHED TO THE RIGHT FUEL TANK. END

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
