## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE IN THE TAKE-OFF PHASE FROM A BAY TOWARD OPEN WATER ON LAKE SUPERIOR, MN THE FRONT OF THE LEFT FLOAT HIT A WAVE; THE FLOAT AND STRUT COLLAPSED CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO CRASH INTO THE WATER. NEITHER THE PILOT OR PASSENGERS WERE INJURED AND ALL ON BOARD WERE ABLE TO EXIT THE AIRCRAFT SAFELY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI06CA197](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI06CA197), Jul 22, 2006: Cessna 206H (N52728), Lutsen, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The unsuitable terrain the pilot encountered during takeoff in rough water. A factor was the wave in the rough water.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
