## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR PILOT STATED THAT THE STUDENT PILOT WAS PRACTICING HOVERING. HELICOPTER WAS APPROXIMATELY 5 FEET ABOVE GROUND WHEN THE STUDENT PILOT STARTED TO LOSE CONTROL. THE CFI TOOK CONTROL OF THE HELICOPTER FROM THE STUDENT PILOT. THE CFI INADVERTENTLY APPLIED TOO MUCH LEFT PEDAL AND THE HELICOPTER FLIPPED OVER ON ITS LEFT SIDE CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THERE WERE MINOR INJURIES TO BOTH OCCUPANTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX06CA250](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX06CA250), Jul 29, 2006: Robinson R-22B (N475SH), Chino, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the certified flight instructor's inadequate supervision and incorrect remedial action. A factor was the student pilot's loss of control in a hovering turn.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
