## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) OPERATOR WAS IN A LOW TURN ABOUT TO MAKE HIS SECOND SPRAYING PASS ON A BEAN FIELD WHEN THE ENGINE LOST ABOUT 400 RPMS AS INDICATED ON THE AIRCRAFT'S TACHOMETER. PILOT ATTEMPTED TO RESTORE POWER BY SWITCHING MAGNETOS BUT WAS UNABLE TO RESTORE POWER. AIRCRAFT WAS LESS THAN 100 AGL AND STILL IN A TURN, WHEN THE PILOT OBSERVED HOMES IN HIS FLIGHT PATH AND CONTINUED TO TURN THE AIRCRAFT TO AVOID THEM WHILE STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THE LOSS OF POWER. THE AIRCRAFT WAS UNABLE TO REMAIN ALOFT AND CRASHED INTO A BRUSHY FIELD. THE PROPELLER SEPARATED FROM THE ENGINE WHERE THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND. THE ENGINE AND FORWARD NACELLE WERE HEAVILY DAMAGED. THE AIRCRAFT LEFT A TRAIL OF BROKEN PARTS APPROXIMATELY 70 FEET LONG FROM IMPACT TO RESTING POSITION. BOTH WINGS WERE SEVERELY DAMAGED. THE AFT FUSELAGE APPEARS TO HAVE LITTLE OR NO DAMAGE. THE PILOT RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES, HE WAS TREATED AND RELEASED FROM THE LOCAL HOSPITAL THE SAME DAY.
