## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS HOVERING EXPECTING A CLEARANCE TO TAKEOFF ON A MEDICAL MISSION. AIR TRAFFIC DELAYED CLEARANCE DUE TO AN INBOUND HELICOPTER LANDING AT THE SAME RAMP. THE PILOT DID NOT REALIZE THAT THE HELICOPTER WAS MOVING BACKWARD DUE TO VISUAL REFERENCE AT NIGHT. THE TAIL ROTOR STRUCK THE HANGAR AND THE PILOT MADE AN IMMEDIATE AUTOROTATION SAFELY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA06CA161](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA06CA161), Aug 11, 2006: Bell 206L-3 (N206UH), Salt Lake City, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the pilot to maintain clearance by allowing the helicopter to drift backwards, resulting in its tail rotor striking a hangar.

## Other reports on N206UH (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19970915031969I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19970915031969I), Sep 15, 1997: Bell 206L3 (N206UH), Salt Lake City, UT, Minor damage. (-23) No narrative available.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
