## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AT 1545, ON AUGUST 11, 2006, A STINSON 108-1 TOUCHED DOWN NEAR 1000 FEET FROM THE APPROACH END OF RUNWAY 7, AND SOON BEGAN A SLOW SWERVE TO THE LEFT, SLIDING THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR TIRE AND THE RIGHT WINGTIP AGAINST THE RUNWAY SURFACE. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE LEFT SIDE OF RUNWAY 7, APPROXIMATELY 1450 FEET FROM THE APPROACH END. AFTER TRACKING THROUGH THE GRASSY BERM FOR APPROXIMATELY 150 TO 200 FEET, THE AIRCRAFT SUBSEQUENTLY NOSED OVER UPON CONTACTING THE UPHILL BANK OF A DRAINAGE SWALE ADJACENT TO THE RUNWAY, INCURRING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE VERTICAL STABILIZER AND RUDDER, THE RIGHT-HAND WINGTIP, RIGHT WING STRUT, RIGHT WING STRUCTURE, THE FORWARD FUSELAGE STRUCTURE, ENGINE, COWLING, PROPELLER AND PROP SPINNER. WEATHER AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WAS CLEAR WITH UNRESTRICTED VISIBILITY WITH A LIGHT QUARTERING NORTHERLY CROSSWIND OF 9 KNOTS. THE PILOT WAS UNINJURED. THE RIGHT SEAT PASSENGER SUSTAINED MINOR HEAD INJURIES AND WAS TREATED AND RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL. INSPECTION OF THE WRECKAGE REVEALED BOTH TAILWHEEL STEERING EXTENSION SPRINGS HANGING FREE FROM THE RUDDER CONTROL ARM, DISENGAGED COMPLETELY FROM THE DISTORTED MOUNTING CLIPS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC06CA200](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC06CA200), Aug 11, 2006: Stinson 108 (N97541), Meadville, PA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The owner's failure to install the proper tailwheel spring clips, which resulted in a loss of directional control during the landing roll. A factor was his lack of a mechanic certificate.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
