## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON AUGUST 16, 2006 AT 13:00 PM N12DW AN EXTRA 300 WAS PERFORMING LOW ALTITUDE AEROBATIC MANEUVERS AT THE NORTH EAST CORNER OF THE MOJAVE AIRPORT. DURING A FLAT SPIN MANEUVER IT WAS REPORTED BY AN EYEWITNESS THAT N12DW HAD NOT RECOVERED TO A NORMAL FLIGHT ATTITUDE AND HAD IMPACTED THE DESERT FLOOR DURING THIS FLAT SPIN MANEUVER. UPON INSPECTION OF THE ACCIDENT SITE LOCATED AT GPS N 35 4.685 AND W 118 8.280 IT WAS NOTED THAT THE AIRCRAFT HAD STOPPED SPINNING AND WAS IN A NOSE DOWN ATTITUDE BUILDING SPEED. THE GROUND SCARS AND THE DISTRIBUTION OF WRECKAGE INDICATED THAT THE PILOT WAS ATTEMPTING TO PULL UP OUT OF THE DIVE, STALLED THE WING AND MUSHED INTO THE GROUND IN A NOSE HIGH ATTITUDE WITH A HIGH SINK RATE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX06LA262](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX06LA262), Aug 16, 2006: Extra Flugzeugbau EA-300 (N12DW), Mojave, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain an adequate airspeed while performing low-level aerobatics that resulted in an inadvertent accelerated stall and in-flight collision with terrain.

## Other reports on N12DW (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

(-23) While trying to hand-prop the aircraft, the rope being used to tie down the aircraft broke and it proceeded to taxi unoccupied off into the weeds. No one…
