## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON AUGUST 20, 2006, AT 22:15 LOCAL TIME N6401A, A PIPER PA-38-112 AIRCRAFT LANDED ON RUNWAY 02 AT HAMPTON ROADS EXECUTIVE AIRPORT (PVG) AND STRUCK A DEER WHILE ON ROLL OUT. THE DEER IMPACTED THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR SHEARING THE LANDING GEAR ATTACH BOLTS AND PULLING THE LANDING GEAR OFF THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT THEN COLLAPSED ONTO THE LEFT WING AND FUSELAGE WING STEP CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO VEER OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE LEFT WING LEADING EDGE IMPACTED RUNWAY LIGHTS CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE LOCAL AUTHORITIES RESPONDED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED TO THE TWO OCCUPANTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC06CA212](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC06CA212), Aug 21, 2006: Piper PA 38-112 (N6401A), Chesapeake, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The presence of deer on the runway during the landing roll, which resulted in a collision. A factor in the accident was the dark night.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
