## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PARACHUTIST, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STRUCK THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER OF THE AIRCRAFT WHEN HE INTENTIONALLY DEPARTED THE AFT LEFT DOOR EXIT. THE IMPACT RENDERED ^PRIVACY DA^ UNCONSCIOUS. CONTINUING TO FREE FALL, THE AUTOMATIC DEPLOYMENT SYSTEM FIRED (CYPRESS) ON THE RESERVE PARACHUTE, AND HE LANDED UNDER A NORMAL PARACHUTE CANOPY IN A SMALL CLEARING NEAR THE AIRPORT. ^PRIVACY DA^ WAS AIR LEFT TRANSPORTED TO UC DAVIS MEDICAL CENTER AND IS RECOVERING FROM THE INJURIES SUSTAINED. SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION DETERMINED MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER UPGRADING THIS REPORT FROM AN INCIDENT TO AN ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX06CA285](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX06CA285), Aug 22, 2006: Beech 99 (N205TC), Lodi, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the failure of the skydiver to correctly follow procedures and directives on exiting the airplane properly, which resulted in his collision with the horizontal stabilizer.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
