## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRPORT MANAGER OF GREENWOOD LAKE AIRPORT (4N1) CONTACTED THE FSDO WHEN HE NOTICED UPPER WING DAMAGE TO ONE OF THE TENANT A/C. INVESTIGATION FOUND THAT THE OWNER/OPERATOR OF N4583T, UPON RETURNING TO THE AIRPORT, HAD MADE A HARD LANDING THE PREVIOUS DAY. INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE REAR LNDG GR. ATTACHED BULKHEAD WAS DRIVEN UPWARD AND PENETRATED THE UPPER SKIN. (4"-5" GASH, WITH TORN RIVETS). AIRMAN MENTIONED THAT ON HIS APPROACH TO RWY 24 THE WINDS WERE 270-300 @ 10KTS WITH OCCASIONAL GUSTS. WHEN 5 FEET OFF THE RWY, HE EXPERIENCED A GUST THAT DROPPED THE WING. HE DID NOT THINK IT WAS A "HARD LANDING." AIRWORTHINESS SUSPECTS FURTHER INTERNAL DAMAGE TO THE SPAR & MAIN LANDING GEAR MOUNTS. NOTE: ALTIM/STATIC/ENCODER OUT OF DATE BY 4 MO.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC06CA210](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC06CA210), Aug 23, 2006: Piper PA-28R-200 (N4583T), West Milford, NJ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for the wind conditions, which resulted in a hard landing. A factor was the wind.

## Other reports on N4583T (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19901027047109I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19901027047109I), Oct 27, 1990: Piper PA28R200 (N4583T), Warwick, NY, Minor damage. Left gear collapsed on rollout. Veered off runway. Runway under construction. No medical or annual certificates.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
