## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DUE TO REPORTED APPROACHING THUNDERSTORMS, PILOT ELECTED TO REPOSITION HIS AIRCRAFT TO A FIELD 1 1/2 EAST WHERE HANGAR SPACE WAS AVAILABLE. HIS TAKEOFF WAS FROM A 6,000 FOOT RUNWAY. WITNESSES STATE HE DID NOT BECOME AIRBORNE UNTIL MID-FIELD, AND HAD REACHED ONLY 100 TO 200 FEET ALTITUDE BY THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT WAS OBSERVED TURNING TO THE LEFT, THE LEFT WING DIPPING, THEN ENTERING A SPIN ENDING IN A NEAR VERTICAL IMPACT WITH THE GROUND. THE PILOT WAS FATALLY INJURED AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED. THE PILOT HAD STATED JUST PRIOR TO TAKEOFF THE ENGINE WAS "WEAK" AND HE INTENDED TO CHANGE IT OUT THIS WINTER. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE AIRSPEED INDICATING SYSTEM WAS INOPERATIVE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN06LA118](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN06LA118), Aug 25, 2006: Scheibe Flugzeugbau SF-24A Motorspatz (N41FA), Wichita, KS, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain aircraft control. Factors were the low airspeed and the inadvertent stall and spin.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
