## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND N314MA WAS ^PRIVACY DATA OMIT^. HE DEPARTED CRAWING STONE LAKE, LAC DU FLAMBEAU, WI AT APPROXIMATELY 1600. HE THEN FLEW TO MAKE A LANDING ON FENCE LAKE AND FROM THERE HE FLEW OVER TO LOWER GRESHAM LAKE, WI, TO MAKE A PRACTICE LANDING. THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED AT APPROXIMATELY 1630 CDT. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DA^ STATED HE FLEW A PATTERN OVER LOWER GRESHAM LAKE, AT APPROXIMATELY 500 FT MEL, IN ORDER TO CHECK FOR HAZARDS, OBSTRUCTIONS AND BOATS. HE STATED HE DID NOT SEE ANY. THE LAKE WAS CLEAR AND HAD AN OPEN ESTUARY AT THE WEST END. HE APPROACHED THE LAKE SLIGHTLY BELOW THE TREE TOPS, WHERE THE ESTUARY IS. AT THAT POINT THERE IS ABOUT A 70 YARD GAP, BETWEEN THE TREES. HE THEN IMPACTED A 3/8 INCH POWER LINE CABLE, WHICH CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO IMPACT THE WATER, CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO HIS AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI06CA246](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI06CA246), Aug 26, 2006: Aviat A-1B (N314MA), Minocqua, WI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The inadvertent collision with power lines. A factor associated with the accident was the water which blended in with the power lines resulting in the pilot's inability to see them prior to contact.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
