## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMIT^, A PRIVATE RATED AIRPLANE SINGLE ENGINE LAND AND SEA PILOT WAS RECEIVING FLIGHT INSTRUCTION FROM ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ IN AN R-22 HELICOPTER N2649D. WHILE PRACTICING HOVER AUTOROTATIONS, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DA^ MADE A HARD LANDING DURING WHICH THE HELICOPTER BOUNCED BACK INTO THE AIR. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DA^ MISHANDLED THE RECOVERY OF THE LANDING AND THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR FAILED TO TAKE THE AIRCRAFT IN TIME BEFORE THE DYNAMIC ROLLOVER OCCURRED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC06CA213](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC06CA213), Aug 28, 2006: Robinson R22 Beta (N2649D), Frederick, MD, substantial damage. Probable cause: The flight instructor's delayed remedial action during a hovering autorotation, which resulted in a hard landing and inadvertent dynamic rollover.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
