## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) CONDUCT OF THIS FLIGHT WAS FOR THE PURPOSE OF A COMMERCIAL CERTIFICATE CHECK RIDE. THE DESIGNATED PILOT EXAMINER (DPE) STATED THAT DURING THE TAKE-OFF ROLL, HE WAS LOOKING OUT OF THE RIGHT WINDOW AS THE NOSE OF THE AIRCRAFT ROSE AND THEN FELL, ACCOMPANIED BY THE SOUND OF THE PROPELLER HITTING THE SURFACE OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT IS A FOREIGN PILOT WHO COULD NOT BE INTERVIEWED BECAUSE HE DISAPPEARED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE INCIDENT. THE DPE AND A LOCAL MECHANIC STATED THAT ALTHOUGH THE PILOT DENIED MOVING THE GEAR SELECTOR TO THE "UP" POSITION, THERE WERE NO DEFECTS FOUND IN THE SYSTEM AND THE NOSE GEAR RETURNED TO THE DOWN AND LOCKED POSITION AS SOON AS POWER WAS APPLIED WITH THE SELECTOR IN THE "DOWN" POSITION. THE DPE THINKS THAT HE SAW THE GEAR SELECTOR IN THE "UP" POSITION IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE INCIDENT, BUT IS UNCERTAIN AND THE SELECTOR WAS LATER FOUND IN THE "DOWN" POSITION.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
