## Narrative

THE AIRCRAFT HAD NOT BEEN TIED DOWN UPON HIS ARRIVAL ON A RECREATIONAL TRIP. HE RETURNED TO THE AIRCRAFT TO ATTEMPT TYING IT DOWN TO SOME NEARBY ALDER TREES. HE STATED THAT HE STARTED THE AIRPLANE IN AN ATTEMPT TO REPOSITION NEAR THE TREES. USING POWER HE TURNED THE AIRPLANE INTO A DOWN WIND CONDITION ATTEMPTING TO GET TO THE ALDERS. A GUST OF WIND CAUGHT THE AIRPLANE WHILE IN A DOWN WIND CONDITION CAUSING IT TO FLIP OVER ON ITS BACK. THERE WAS A SLIGHT BEND IN THE PROPELLER AND THE TIP OF RUDDER WAS SLIGHTLY BENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
