## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) CFI GLIDER PILOT, GIVING INSTRUCTION TO A STUDENT, SAW THE TOW PLANE PILOT SIGNAL WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS A DISTRESS OF THE TOW PLANE AND DIRECTED THE STUDENT TO PULL THE TOW RELEASE 50-100 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND. THE CFI THEN TOOK THE CONTROLS AND INITIATED A LEFT TURN BACK TOWARD THE AIRPORT BUT HAD INSUFFICIENT ALTITUDE AND DURING THE TURN STRUCK A POWER POLE. THIS SEVERED THE WING OF THE GLIDER, WHICH THEN CRASHED ON THE AIRPORT PROPERTY WHERE FURTHER DESTRUCTION OF THE GLIDER OCCURRED. BOTH GLIDER PILOTS SUFFERED BACK INJURIES AND WERE ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL.
