## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THIS IS A PRELIMINARY REPORT. WHEN THE REMAINDER OF THE RELEVANT FACTS BECOME KNOWN, AN AMENDED REPORT WILL BE FILED. (-23 AMENDMENT) THE PILOT OBTAINED A PREFLIGHT BRIEFING FROM DUATS. IT WAS AN ABBREVIATED BRIEFING AND DID NOT INCLUDE THE NOTAM FOR THE AIRPORT WHICH WARNED ABOUT AIRPORT CONSTRUCTION AND THE FACT THAT ONLY THE FIRST 2,000 FEET OF RUNWAY 3 WERE AVAILABLE FOR TAKEOFF AND LANDING OPERATIONS. UPON ENTRY INTO THE TRAFFIC PATTERN AT CANYONLANDS AIRPORT IN MOAB, UTAH THE PILOT DID NOT CONDUCT ANY KIND OF RUNWAY CHECK TO DETERMINE ITS SUITABILITY FOR LANDING. THE PILOT LANDED ON RUNWAY 3 AND THE NOSE GEAR BECAME ENTANGLED IN A BERM OF DIRT SPREAD ACROSS THE RUNWAY FROM SIDE TO SIDE. THAT IMPACT CAUSED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT'S AIRFRAME. THIS IS A FINAL REPORT. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA06CA181](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA06CA181), Sep 13, 2006: Cessna 172M (N29MX), Moab, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to obtain current NOTAMS which resulted in an on-ground collision with a construction berm while landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
