## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT HE HAD LEFT MORRISTOWN, TN HEADED TO TRENTON, TN. HE WAS AT 3500 FEET, WHEN THE ENGINE QUIT. HE STATED THAT HE PULLED CARBURETOR HEAT, SWAPPED FUEL TANKS, AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE ENGINE SEVERAL TIMES. HE WAS HEADED WEST, SO HE TURNED SOUTH TO SETUP FOR A FORCED LANDING. HE PICKED THE SOYBEAN FIELD BECAUSE THE OTHER FIELDS IN THE AREA HAD POWER LINES. HE SLIPPED THE AIRCRAFT FROM 800 FEET AND TURNED THE FUEL OFF ONCE HE REALIZED THE SOYBEANS WERE TALLER THEN HE ORIGINALLY THOUGHT. HE LANDED, AND THE SOYBEANS CAUGHT THE LANDING GEAR AND TURNED THE AIRCRAFT UPSIDE DOWN. HE SAID THAT HE WAS NOT INJURED IN THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL06LA127](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL06LA127), Sep 19, 2006: Stinson 108 (N97651), Holladay, TN, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power in cruise flight due to the fatigue failure of the crankshaft gear resulting in a forced landing and subsequent nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
