## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL HAD JUST COMPLETED 100 HOUR INSPECTION ON AIRSHIP AT BEVERLY MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (BVY). DURING RUNUP A GUST OF WIND CAUSED THE MAIN GEAR TO STRIKE THE GROUND WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE. THE IMPACT CAUSED THE RUDDER CONTROL CHAIN TO BE JARRED OFF ITS SPROCKET UNBEKNOWN TO THE MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL. PILOT SUBSEQUENTLY DEPARTED BVY ON A FLIGHT BUT DID NOT COMPLETE A FLIGHT CONTROL CHECK. PILOT IMMEDIATELY REALIZED HE HAD NO RUDDER CONTROL. PILOT MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN 60 FOOT TALL TREES 5.2 MILES E. SE OF BVY WITH ONLY SLIGHT DAMAGE TO THE AIRBAG FABRIC AND GONDOLA BOTTOM FABRIC COVER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC06IA229](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC06IA229), Sep 26, 2006: American Blimp A-60+ (N614LG), Manchester, MA, incident, minor damage. Probable cause: A malfunction of the rudder control system, and the pilot's inadequate preflight inspection. Contributing to the incident was the inadequate design of the chain keeper guards.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
