## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT SELECTED RUNWAY 18 FOR LANDING BECAUSE HE NOTED THAT THE WINDSOCK AT BOLIVAR WAS INDICATING A VARIABLE WIND FROM 270 DEGREES. HE NOTICED THAT IT TOOK FULL LEFT RUDDER TO KEEP THE AIRPLANE ALIGNED WITH THE RUNWAY ON SHORT FINAL. AFTER TOUCHING DOWN ON THE LEFT MAIN WHEEL, THE RIGHT WING CAME UP AND THE AIRPLANE TURNED LEFT AND DRIFTED OFF THE RUNWAY TO THE LEFT. AS IT FISHTAILED AND SLID TO A STOP IN THE GRASS ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, THE NOSE GEAR AND RIGHT MAIN GEAR WERE BROKEN OFF AND THE PROPELLER AND RIGHT WING WERE DAMAGED. THE WIND IN SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI, AT THE TIME WAS FROM 270 DEGREES AT 12 KNOTS GUSTING TO 18 KNOTS, VARIABLE FROM 270 TO 300 DEGREES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI06CA277](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI06CA277), Sep 30, 2006: Rockwell 112TC (N1154J), Bolivar, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for the crosswind condition and his failure to maintain directional control during the go-around attempt.
