## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRCRAFT HAD JUST BEEN REFUELED, PAX UNLOADED, AND NEW PAX LOADED FOR AN AIR TOUR. DURING THIS TIME THE PILOT HAD FRICTIONED THE CONTROLS. JUST AS THE AIRCRAFT MOVED FORWARD FROM A HOVER THE PIC HAD TO ADD LEFT CYCLIC TRIM AND CONTINUED UNTIL NO TRIM WAS LEFT. THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN A RIGHT ROLL. THE PIC ELECTED TO PUT THE AIRCRAFT ON THE GROUND. THE RESULT WAS A HARD LANDING WITH THE RIGHT SKID COLLAPSED AND DAMAGE TO THE TAIL BOOM. THERE WAS NO MAIN ROTOR CONTACT WITH THE GROUND. ALL OCCUPANTS WERE EVACUATED WITHOUT INCIDENT. SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION FOUND NO MECHANICAL IRREGULARITIES WITH THE AIRCRAFT. IT APPEARS THAT ONE OF THE FRICTION LOCKS ON THE CYCLIC WAS ENGAGED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX07LA002](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX07LA002), Oct 2, 2006: McDonnell Douglas 369E (N142MK), Hilo, HI, substantial damage. Probable cause: Inadvertent application of the lateral cyclic friction, which resulted in a loss of control and subsequent hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
