## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING CRUISE FLIGHT, THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED AN ENGINE FAILURE WHILE ENROUTE TO DESTINATION. THE PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND FORCE LANDED ON A DIRT STRIP 12 MILES WEST OF OAKDALE, CA. THE AIRCRAFT RAN OFF THE END OF THE DIRT STRIP AND HIT A FENCE RESULTING IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED A LARGE HOLE ON THE ENGINE CASE THAT MAY HAVE RESULTED FROM A CONNECTING ROD SEPARATING FROM THE ENGINE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX07LA004](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX07LA004), Oct 8, 2006: Grumman American AA-5B (N39ER), Oakdale, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power resulting from lubrication deprivation for undetermined reasons.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
