(-23) ON 10/19/2006 AT 0820L A CIRRUS SR-22, N246MT RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AFTER DEPARTING THE RUNWAY AND STRIKING A TREE DURING AN ATTEMPTED GO-AROUND AT THE FLYING W AIRPORT (N14) IN MEDFORD NJ. THE PILOT STATED THAT WHILE LANDING ON RUNWAY 1 AT N14 HE WAS DISSATISFIED WITH HIS AIRSPEED AND FLARE AND DECIDED TO COMMENCE A GO-AROUND. HE STATED THAT FULL POWER AND RIGHT RUDDER WERE APPLIED. THE PLANE PULLED RAPIDLY TO THE LEFT AND DEPARTED THE RUNWAY AND CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 1000' FROM THE RUNWAY CENTERLINE. THE AIRCRAFT CROSSED A DRAINAGE DITCH AND STRUCK A TREE AND CROSSED A ROAD PRIOR TO COMING TO REST IN AN OPEN FIELD. DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE CONSISTED OF A BENT PROPELLER WITH S-BENDING, THE NOSE WHEEL WAS BROKEN OFF, DAMAGE TO THE COWLING AND LEFT WING TIP AND A LARGE INDENTATION IN THE LEADING EDGE OF THE LEFT WING. THERE WERE NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC07CA010](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC07CA010), Oct 19, 2006: Cirrus SR-22 (N246MT), Lumberton, NJ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain aircraft control during a go-around, which resulted in an in-flight collision with a tree.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
