## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT DESTROYED WHEN IT IMPACTED WOODED TERRAIN NEAR GEORGETOWN, LA. THE PILOT WAS ENROUTE FROM THE ST. LOUIS DOWNTOWN AIRPORT (CPS) TO THE CHENNAULT INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (CWF) WHEN HE ADVISED AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS THAT HE WANTED TO CHANGE HIS DESTINATION TO ALEXANDRIA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (AEX) TO REFUEL. HE ALSO STATED THAT HE WAS DESCENDING TO 2,000 FEET MSL TO MAINTAIN VFR CONDITIONS. SHORTLY AFTER THE PILOT BEGAN A DESCENT THE AIRCRAFT DISAPPEARED FROM RADAR. AN ON-SCENE EXAMINATION OF THE AIRCRAFT WAS CONDUCTED ON 10/23/06 AND REVEALED THAT ALL MAJOR COMPONENTS OF THE AIRCRAFT WERE ACCOUNTED FOR AT THE POINT OF IMPACT WHICH APPEARED TO BE AT ALMOST VERTICAL ANGLE TO THE GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW07FA008](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW07FA008), Oct 22, 2006: North American T-28C (N470), Georgetown, LA, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain control of the airplane which led to an aerodynamic stall. A contributing factor was the dark night.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
