## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON OCTOBER 26, 2006 (APPROX 1710 LCL), A MAULE MODEL M-5 (REGISTRATION N23CX) CRASHED FOLLOWING A GROUND LOOP. PILOT IN COMMAND STATED THAT HE LOST CONTROL DURING THE LANDING PHASE DUE TO A FRONTAL GUST OF WIND. THE AIRCRAFT CAME OFF THE RUNWAY DURING LANDING PHASE. THE RIGHT LANDING GEAR BROKE AT THE RIGHT "A" FRAME ASSEMBLY POINT, THEN THE AIRCRAFT PROPELLER STRUCK THE GROUND CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO VEER 180 DEGREES TO THE RIGHT. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST OUTSIDE THE RUNWAY, BY THE APRON. THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE PROPELLER, RIGHT WING, LEFT ELEVATOR, AND A BROKEN RIGHT LANDING GEAR SPAR. THE FUSELAGE SKIN SURROUNDING THE MAIN LANDING GEAR APPEARED WARPED. NO OTHER PROPERTY DAMAGE, NO INJURIES REPORTED, AND NO FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW07CA015](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW07CA015), Oct 26, 2006: Maule M5 (N32CX), New Braunfels, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the right main landing gear attachment during the landing roll, which resulted in a ground loop. A contributing factor was a crosswind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
