## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON NOVEMBER 6TH, 2006 AT 1050 HRS LOCAL, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ DEPARTED THE OTTAWA, KS (OWI) MUNICIPAL AIRPORT DESTINED TO THE GARDNER, KS (K34) MUNICIPAL AIRPORT. APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES LATER THE ENGINE EXPERIENCED LOSS OF POWER, SEVERE VIBRATIONS, AS WELL AS GRINDING NOISES COULD BE HEARD FROM THE ENGINE. FEARING THE ENGINE MIGHT DETACH FROM THE AIRCRAFT THE PILOT CHOSE TO SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE. THE PILOT SITED AN OPEN WHEAT FIELD APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES SOUTHWEST OF WELLSVILLE, KS AND ATTEMPTED AN EMERGENCY LANDING, BUT WAS UNABLE TO CLEAR A SMALL TREE LINE. AS THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE TREE LINE THE ENTIRE WING SECTION AND UPPER CENTER FUSELAGE SECTION INCURRED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT WHO WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT OF THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT INJURED.
