## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) UAL FLIGHT #732, AN AIRBUS (A-320-232) REGISTRATION (N428UA) STRUCK UAL FLIGHT #672, A BOEING (B-737-322) REGISTRATION (N328UA), WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TAXI BEHIND N328UA. N328UA WAS STOPPED AT TAXIWAY INTERSECTION "JULIET" AND "JULIET ONE" DUE TO TRAFFIC. N428UA ATTEMPTED TO TAXI AROUND THE STOPPED AIRCRAFT. WHILE TAXIING BEHIND AND TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF N328UA, N428UA'S LEFT WING WINGLET STRUCK N328UA'S RIGHT ELEVATOR AND HORIZONTAL STABILIZER LOWER SKIN SURFACE. N428UA WINGLET DAMAGED THE UNDER SIDE OF N328UA'S RIGHT ELEVATOR AND STABILIZER FROM THE TRAILING EDGE OF THE ELEVATOR TO THE LEADING EDGE OF THE STABILIZER. THE NTSB RECLASSIFIED THE INCIDENT AS AN ACCIDENT AFTER REVIEWING THE EXTENT OF DAMAGE TO N328UA. THE PILOT IN COMMAND OF N428UA FAILED TO ENSURE ADEQUATE CLEARANCE BETWEEN HIS AIRCRAFT AND N328UA WHILE TAXIING PAST THE PARKED AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI07FA020](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI07FA020), Nov 7, 2006: Airbus A-320-200 (N428UA), Chicago, IL, minor damage. Probable cause: The pilot-in-command of the other airplane failed to maintain clearance with the parked airplane during taxi for takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
