## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED AFTER IMPACTING TERRAIN DURING A FORCED LANDING FOLLOWING LOSS OF ENGINE POWER ABOUT 1 NAUTICAL MILE SOUTHWEST OF SANDERSON FIELD (SHN), SHELTON, WA. AN ON-SITE EXAMINATION OF THE WRECKAGE REVEALED THAT THE RIGHT FUEL TANK WAS BREACHED AND NO FUEL WAS FOUND IN THE LEFT WING TANK OR AFT AUX FUEL TANK. FIRST RESPONDERS, WHO ARRIVED AT THE ACCIDENT SITE ABOUT 15 MINUTES AFTER THE CRASH, REPORTED NO SMELL OF FUEL IN THE AREA UPON THEIR ARRIVAL. A WITNESS TO THE CRASH REPORTED THAT HE OBSERVED THE ACCIDENT AIRCRAFT IN A SLOW DESCENT TOWARD THE RUNWAY, THEN OBSERVED THE AIRPLANE PITCH UP, FOLLOWED BY THE RIGHT WING DROPPING. THE AIRCRAFT THEN ENTERED A SPIRAL JUST PRIOR TO IMPACTING THE GROUND. THERE WAS NO POST-CRASH FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Probable cause: The pilot's failure to refuel the airplane, which resulted in fuel exhaustion, and his failure to maintain sufficient airspeed to avoid a stall during the subsequent forced landing. A factor…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
