## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT STARTED HELICOPTER. WHILE ENGINE WAS RUNNING THE PILOT EXITED THE HELICOPTER TO UNPLUG AN AUXILIARY POWER UNIT. PILOT MOVED AUXILIARY POWER UNIT AWAY FROM THE HELICOPTER. AS THE PILOT WAS WALKING AWAY FROM THE HELICOPTER, A GUST OF WIND SWUNG THE TAIL APPROXIMATELY 90 DEGREES TO THE LEFT CAUSING THE HELICOPTER TO MOVE BACKWARDS UNDER ITS OWN POWER. THE HELICOPTER WENT BACKWARDS OFF AN EMBANKMENT UNDER ITS OWN POWER AND CAME TO REST ON ITS RIGHT SIDE WITH THE NOSE FACING DOWNHILL. THE HELICOPTER SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX07CA034](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX07CA034), Nov 11, 2006: Bell 206B (N59571), Boulder City, NV, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's inadequate planning and decision in his failure to reduce the engine throttle to ground idle prior to exiting the helicopter.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
