## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) N169JS WITH PILOT AND PASSENGER WAS ENROUTE FROM MHT TO ASH AT 1000 FT APPROXIMATELY 4 MILES NORTHWEST OF MHT. THERE WAS A LARGE PUFF OF BLUE SMOKE EXTERIOR OF THE CRAFT WITH A SMALL OF BURNING OIL IN THE COCKPIT. THE PILOT SPOTTED A FIELD A MILE AWAY, PROCEEDED THERE, AVOIDING A RIVER, HIGHWAY AND POWER LINES. HE STARTED AN AUTOROTATION AS THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND SETTLED ON A SLIGHT SLOPE WITH FORWARD WHICH BENT THE LEFT SKID BACK. THE CRAFT THEN DID A DYNAMIC ROLL OVER TO THE LEFT WITH THE MAIN ROTORS HITTING THE GROUND AND THE CRAFT ENDING UP ON ITS LEFT SIDE. THE PILOT AND PASSENGER EGRESSED THROUGH THE RIGHT DOOR TO SAFETY WITHOUT INJURY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC07LA030](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC07LA030), Nov 18, 2006: Stump Rotorway Exec 90 (N169JS), Manchester, NH, substantial damage. Probable cause: An improperly installed oil line, which resulted in oil line fatigue failure and a subsequent loss of oil to the engine. A contributing factor was the sloping terrain at the forced landing site.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
