## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING AN INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT ON A 2 MILE DOWNWIND, THE FORWARD BAGGAGE DOOR BROKE IN TWO AND AND ONE PART DEPARTED THE AIRCRAFT. AIRCRAFT LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. NO SECONDARY DAMAGE NOTED TO THE AIRCRAFT. THE PART OF BAGGAGE DOOR THAT DEPARTED THE AIRCRAFT COULD NOT BE LOCATED. AD 88-04-05 (SUPERSEDES AD 81-10-03) ADDRESSES THE LATCHING MECHANISM ON THIS DOOR. DURING AN INTERVIEW WITH INSPECTOR ^PRIVACY ^, ^PRIVACY DATA ^, ASST. CHIEF INSTRUCTOR FOR INTERNATIONAL AIRLINE TRAINING ACADEMY, STATED THAT THE PILOT LEFT THE BAGGAGE DOOR UNLATCHED DURING THE PRE-FLIGHT WALK AROUND AFTER CHECKING THE BRAKE RESERVOIR LOCATED IN THE NOSE BAGGAGE AREA. REMAINDER OF DOOR HAS ALREADY BEEN DISPOSED OF.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
