## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 12-17-2006 AT APPROXIMATELY 1045 HOURS, WHILE ATTEMPTING A TAKE-OFF ON RUNWAY 20 AT THE BOUNDRY COUNTY IDAHO AIRPORT (65S), THE STUDENT PILOT AND SOLE OCCUPANT OF THE AIRCRAFT, A CE-172-L LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT. AT THE TIME OF THIS ATTEMPTED TAKEOFF, THE RUNWAY WAS REPORTED TO BE COVERED WITH COMPACT SNOW AND ICE. AS THE AIRCRAFT LEFT THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AT NEAR A 45 DEGREE ANGLE IT CONTACTED AN ICE CRUSTED SNOW BERM (APPROXIMATELY 18 INCHES HIGH) WITH THE NOSE TIRE AND LEFT MLG TIRE AT A SPEED SUFFICIENT TO CAUSE THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP OVER ONTO ITS TOP. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED BY THE PILOT AND NO PRE OR POST ACCIDENT FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA07CA034](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA07CA034), Dec 17, 2006: Cessna 172 (N19698), Bonners Ferry, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the takeoff roll. Contributing factors include icy runway conditions and a snow berm adjacent to the runway.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
