APPROXIMATELY 10 NM NORTH WEST OF PANOCHE VORTAC (PXN) WHILE CLIMBING TO 13,500 FEET MSL, THE PILOT SMELLED BURNING INSULATION AND OBSERVED WISPY WHITE SMOKE RISING UP FROM BEHIND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. HE TURNED THE AIRCRAFT TOWARDS THE NEAREST AIRPORT (HOLLISTER, CA) AND STARTED TROUBLESHOOTING THE PROBLEM. THE PILOT NOTICED THE RPM GAUGE WENT TO ZERO SO HE PULLED THE BREAKERS CONNECTED TO THAT BUSS. THE SMELL SUBSIDED AND THEY OBSERVED NO MORE SMOKE. AT THIS POINT THE PILOT ELECTED TO CONTINUE BACK TO REID-HILLVIEW AIRPORT AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.

Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
