## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ON JANUARY 02, 2007, AT 1140 CENTRAL TIME, A TWIN ENGINE FAIRCHILD SW-3 AIRPLANE, VENEZUELAN REGISTRATION YV-2045 WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED FOLLOWING LOSS OF CONTROL WHILE LANDING AT RICHARD L. JONES JR AIRPORT. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT DURING THE LANDING ROLL AND UPON NOSE WHEEL TOUCHDOWN, THE STEERING MECHANISM FAILED AND RESULTED IN AN UNCOMMANDED TURN TO THE LEFT. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP AFTER THE NOSE GEAR ASSEMBLY DUG INTO THE SOFT GROUND AND COLLAPSED. THIS CAUSED STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO LOWER PORTION OF THE NOSE SECTION AND DAMAGE TO THE SUPPORT STRUCTURE OF THE NOSE LANDING GEAR ASSY.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
