## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AFTER A HARD LANDING, THE STUDENT PILOT ATTEMPTED TO ARREST THE BOUNCE BY ADDING POWER. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO BOUNCE WHILE VEERING TOWARDS THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE STUDENT THEN ATTEMPTED A GO-AROUND USING PARTIAL POWER, BUT STRUCK A RUNWAY SIGN WITH THE PROPELLER AND RIGHT MAIN WHEEL. THE AIRPLANE LOST A PIECE OF THE PROPELLER AND THE RIGHT MAIN WHEEL, CROSSED THE PERPENDICULAR RUNWAY, THEN LANDED STRAIGHT AHEAD IN THE GRASS AND SLID TO A STOP.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI07CA054](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI07CA054), Jan 3, 2007: Cessna 172S (N364MA), Alton, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's inadequate recovery from a bounced landing, which resulted in the airplane impacting a runway sign. A factor in the accident was the student pilot's misjudged landing flare.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
