## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR WAS DEMONSTRATING A HOVERING AUTOROTATION TO A STUDENT. WHEN THE HELICOPTER CONTACTED THE GROUND IT PITCHED FORWARD UNTIL THE ROTOR BLADES AND NOSE CONTACTED THE GROUND. WHEN THE HELICOPTER RETURNED TO AN UPRIGHT POSITION THE MAIN ROTOR BLADES RIPPED THE DRIVE SHAFT TO THE TAIL ROTOR OFF OF THE HELICOPTER. RECENT RAINS HAD SOAKED INTO THE GROUND WHERE THE HELICOPTER WAS DOING THE HOVERING AUTOROTATION. THE GROUND DID NOT SUPPORT THIS TYPE OF OPERATION. THIS REPORT IS CLOSED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW07CA053](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW07CA053), Jan 5, 2007: Enstrom F28A (N764PC), Bruceville, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The instructor pilot's improper demonstration of an autorotation, resulting in the helicopter's main rotor blades impacting the ground.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
