## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AT APPROXIMATELY 0806 N54DT DEPARTED FROM MOORE COUNTY AIRPORT (SOP) SOUTHERN PINES, NORTH CAROLINA FOR PORTAGE COUNTY AIRPORT (29G) RAVENNA, OHIO. ON APPROACH TO 29G THE ENGINE LOST POWER DUE TO FUEL EXHAUSTION. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LAND THE AIRCRAFT IN A FIELD BUT HE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH ALTITUDE TO CLEAR A NEARBY WOODED AREA. THE AIRCRAFT HIT THE TOPS OF THE TREES AND CAME TO REST INVERTED ON THE GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI07CA057](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI07CA057), Jan 9, 2007: Barron Thorp T18 (N54DT), Edinburg, OH, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's improper in-flight decision not to refuel prior to fuel exhaustion. A factor to the accident was the tree line that the airplane impacted during the forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
