## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JANUARY 10, 2007, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMIT^, THE PILOT IN COMMAND OF LEARJET 35A, N40AN, OPERATING STAR-CHECK ROUTE 141 FROM JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA (JAX) TO RICKENBACKER INTERNATIONAL (LCK). ON DESCENT INTO RICKENBACKER AT APPROXIMATELY 03:56 AM, THERE WAS AN ATTEMPT TO EXECUTE AN ACROBATIC ROLL OF THE AIRCRAFT BY THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DA^. DURING THE MANEUVER, THE AIRCRAFT LOST IN EXCESS OF 20,000 FEET IN LESS THAN 90 SECONDS AND CHANGED DIRECTION OF FLIGHT. AIRCRAFT LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. UPON ARRIVAL AT RICKENBACKER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, SIGNIFICANT STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO N40AN WAS OBSERVED BY MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL. THE EXCESSIVE STRESSES THAT OCCURRED TO THE AIRCRAFT AS A RESULT OF BOTH THE MANUEVER AND FROM THE RECOVERY OF THE APPARENT LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT RESULTED IN AN OCCURRENCE MEETING THE DEFINITION OF AN AIRCRAFT ACCIDENT. NO INJURIES TO POST FIRE OR INJURIES TO THE FLIGHT CREW OCCURRED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI07CA058](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI07CA058), Jan 10, 2007: Learjet 35A (N40AN), Columbus, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain aircraft control during an inflight maneuver which resulted in the design stress limits of the airplane being exceeded. A factor was the excessive airspeed encountered…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
