## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THIS WAS A VFR FLIGHT FROM PENSACOLA, FLORIDA PLANNED TO ARRIVE AT CLEARWATER, FLORIDA. OVER CARRABELLE, FLORIDA AT 5500 FEET HALF OF ONE BLADE SEPARATED FROM THE PROPELLER AT APPROXIMATELY 50% UP THE BLADE. THE PILOT HAD A SEVERE VIBRATION AND PULLED THE MIXTURE CONTROL. THE ENGINE STOPPED WITH THE BROKEN BLADE AT THE 12 O'CLOCK POSITION SO THE PILOT KNEW HE COULD NOT RESTART THE ENGINE SAFELY. HE THEN PROCEEDED TO THE NEAREST AIRPORT (X13). HE SET UP HIS GLIDE TO ARRIVE AT RUNWAY 05 BUT BECAUSE HE WAS TOO LOW HE CRASHED 200 YARDS SHORT OF THE AIRPORT INTO A TREE. HE WAS NOT HURT AND THE PROPELLER HAS BEEN HELD AND WILL BE SENT TO NTSB FOR FURTHER ANALYSIS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA07LA039](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA07LA039), Jan 14, 2007: Cessna 177 (N29888), Carrabelle, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of maintenance personnel to detect corrosion and a fatigue crack during the last annual inspection.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
