## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT ^PRIVACY D^ WAS ATTEMPTING HIS FIRST LANDING OF THE DAY IN A GUSTY CROSSWIND OF ABOUT 12 KNOTS CROSSWIND COMPONENT. HE ALLOWED THE WIND TO DRIFT HIM TO THE LEFT EDGE OF THE PAVED RUNWAY WHERE HIS LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR TIRE CAUGHT A SNOWDRIFT. THIS CAUSED A HARD LEFT TURN OFF THE RUNWAY AND INTO THE SNOW WHILE DIGGING THE LEFT WING INTO THE SNOW AND COMING TO REST ON THE NOSE OF THE AIRPLANE. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY D^ WAS NOT INJURED AND THE AIRPLANE RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING. HE ONLY FLIES A FEW TIMES PER YEAR AND WAS NOT CAPABLE OF CORRECTING FOR THE WIND DRIFT WHILE LANDING. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN07CA056](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN07CA056), Jan 26, 2007: Cessna 172R (N2621Z), Olathe, KS, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper flare during landing and failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll. Factors were the gusting winds and the crosswinds.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
