## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) A BALLOON ON A TRANSCONTINENTAL WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT MADE A PLANNED LANDING NEAR THE CRETE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT, CRETE, NEBRASKA. THE WINDS WERE VERY STRONG, 45 KNOTS DURING THE DESCENT AND ABOUT 30 KNOTS DURING THE TOUCHDOWN. THE AERONAUT EXEUCTED A HIGH WIND LANDING IN A FIELD. THE WIND DRAGGED THE BALLOON AND THE GONDOLA, TIPPED OVER AT THE TOP OF A HILL AND ROLLED DOWN THE OTHER SIDE. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE BALLOON OR INJURIES TO THE AERONAUT OR TO HIS ONE PASSENGER.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
